When it comes to pool and spa heaters in San Diego, there are a few options to consider. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks, so it’s important to choose the one that best fits your needs and budget.

Gas Pool Heater exploded viewGas Pool Heater: These heaters use natural gas or propane to heat the water in your pool or spa.  They are generally the most powerful and efficient option, and will quickly raise the temperature of your pool or spa.  However, they also require a gas line to be installed if not already available.  Gas Pool Heaters are by far the most popular Pool Heater Installation in San Diego, and Unlike Solar Power Pool Heater options, they work at night when you need them most.

Electric Pool Heater ImageElectric Pool Heater: Electric pool heaters are powered by electricity and use an electric heating element to raise the temperature of the water in the pool or spa.  They are more affordable to purchase and can be easier to install, but can be more expensive to operate in the long run given San Diego California’s astronomical electricity costs.  They are also less powerful than gas heaters and may take much longer to raise the temperature of your pool or spa.

Heat Pump GraphicHeat-Pump Pool Heater: These heaters use electricity to move heat from the air or ground into your pool water. They are highly efficient, and can be more cost-effective to operate than gas or electric heaters. However, they are more expensive to purchase and install, and may not be powerful enough to heat very large pools.

Solar Pool Heater GraphicSolar Pool Heater: Solar pool heaters use the energy from the sun to heat the water in your pool. They are highly efficient and can be the most cost-effective option in the long run. However, there are many draw backs to consider.  The first is if the panels are placed on the roof, a much more powerful pump will be needed to account for the additional water pressure required to pump the water 30 feet in the air.  Most likely, the pool equipment was not designed with that requirement in mind.  Another drawback is over time, the panels themselves will become brittle and begin to leak requiring a technician to go on to the roof to replace the solar panels.  When these factors are taken into consideration Solar Pool Heater Panels will require a significant amount of initial investment and may not be powerful enough to heat your pool to the desired temperature when it is most needed; at night, or on cloudy and overcast days.

What factors should you consider when installing a pool heater in San Diego:

The best pool heater installation for you in San Diego will depend on your specific needs and budget.

The Gas Pool Heater is the most powerful and the most popular Pool Heater Installation in San Diego.  Electric Pool Heaters are less powerful but more affordable to purchase and install.  Heat-pump Pool Heaters are highly efficient but can be more expensive to purchase and install and simply not have sufficient BTU’s to heat the body of water that you desire.  Solar Pool Heaters are more efficient to operated, but may not be the most  cost-effective option in the long run and are difficult to install, and require a significant initial investment.
